Education barriers
Girls in Busoga region in Eastern Uganda face a multitude of challenges in attaining education such as the negative attitude towards educating a girl child, poverty, violation of girls sexual and reproductive rights and will tend to avoid one threat and eventually succumb to another.
Primary School Enrolment
- Gross Enrolment Rate (GER) for Busoga is 122.8, which implies a delay in enrolment.
- Net Enrolment Rate (NER) for girls is 85.6%,(they enroll in school when they are much older).
Intake rate
- Gross Intake Rate (GIR) for Girls is 83.5%, (16.5% of the girls are above the age of 6 years at the time of enrolment).
- Girls Net Intake Rate (NIR), is low (22.7%)
Completion rate
- Overall, only 8.7% of children enrolled in primary school complete their primary seven.
- Only 9% of girls enrolled in P.7 at the age of 12 (Net Enrolment Rate) complete primary education.
